My chronic back pain changed my life. Injury after injury, my body couldn’t keep up with my active lifestyle. At age 17 I could hardly walk from back pain. I tried everything, from different medications to different doctors. Nothing seemed to help.
I came across a video on YouTube on the benefits of stretching. So I decided to give it a try, hoping it will help reduce my back pain. After all, what’s the worst that could happen? Every day, I stretched for around 30 minutes daily for 30 days. The results were amazing.
Back pain went + sitting for longer periods
Surprisingly, I saw improvements after a few days of stretching, I felt a reduction in back pain. And within two weeks the pain completely went.
Not only did my back pain go, but I also was able to sit for a much longer period without feeling uncomfortable. I didn’t have to adjust my sitting position to reduce my back pain.
Stretching helps prevent future back problems. At work, I stretch for a minute, sitting for 45 minutes. This helps the back not to cramp up after long periods of sitting.
More flexibility + better posture from stretching
After stretching, I noticed how my posture was becoming better. My ‘hunched’ back was strengthening up effortlessly. I also had friends asking me how I improved my posture.
Through daily stretching, I became so much more flexible. It was shocking to see how greater flexibility helps me in my everyday life. From the gym to swimming and even playing with my children, being more flexible increased my mobility. Which made my everyday life more enjoyable.
Relaxing and slept better
I would often stretch at the end of the day. After a long, stressful day, I would find my nightly stretches relaxing. I could stretch away from the stress which built up during the day, most notable on my back and legs. This detox on my body which I got from stretching helped calm me down.
A calmer, more relaxed body made it much easier to sleep at night. I felt a difference in my sleep on the nights I stretched compared to the nights I didn’t stretch.
