Is there a benefit to stretching every day, or is it overhyped? I decided to stretch for 30 days.
You won’t believe the results.
Initial exposure to stretching
I’ve come across stretching from a very young age, but it seemed like an overhyped fad. I believed, “If it’s not going to get you big bulky muscles, then what’s the point?”
At school, our coach used to make use of stretches before and after every training session. But as the years went on I started stretching less and less, and soon, or later, I didn’t bother doing it at all.
Endure the pain and enjoy the gain
I had doubts about the benefits of stretching, as I assumed that training had to be hard in the order to see results. If you’re not dripping in sweat or lifting till you drop, then you’re wasting your time. Little did I know.
Another misconception I had was that yoga and any type of stretching are for women only. It makes you look weak. This is why I shied away from it for many years.
It wasn’t until years later that I started feeling chronic back pain. I knew I had to make a change.
Desperate for answers
I looked anywhere and everywhere to cure my back pain. From doctors, the internet, friends, books and even tried some unorthodox remedies (I won’t say what I did). I tried anything and everything, there had to be a solution.
Finally, I came across a channel on YouTube which seemed okay. So I decided to commit to around twenty minutes a day of stretching for a month.
In the beginning, I was still sceptical. Sceptical but desperate, so I decided to fulfil my comment.
After the first few days of stretching, I noticed a reduction in back pain. This slight success was enough to motivate me to keep going. Within a week or so, my chronic back pain more or less went.
Months of back pain disappeared within a couple of weeks. A miracle.
If this was the benefit from only a few weeks of stretching, what would happen after months or years of stretching?
After completing 30 days of stretching, this is what I found out.
I always considered fit compared to most guys. But after a month’s worth of stretching, I felt a big improvement in my core strength.
But the biggest gain for me was that my back pain went. After months of agony and dozens of different therapies and medicines. It was stretching that finally helped get rid of my back pain.
Many friends complimented me on how my physique had become better. This boosted my confidence.
My body felt a lot less rigid, especially in the morning.
With the above benefits, it was impossible not to feel good about myself. These benefits help me become mentally stronger and reduce stress.
Sadly, after this month, I stopped stretching daily because I was too busy. I had a full-time job on top of my main full-time job, being a father. I now only stretch when my back is hurting.
Hopefully, I will find the time to be able to stretch daily soon.
I was against stretching, as I didn’t see the benefit of it. After months of chronic lower back pain, I was desperate for relief. I decided to do a daily stretch of 20 minutes for 30 days.
The results after 30 days:
- my back pain went
- if improvement of core strength
- better physique
- increased flexibility
- increased confidence from the complements
- mentally stronger
- stressed reduced
- felt better about myself
Try the 30-day stretch challenge and see how it benefits you.
