for years i was suffering with stress, and had problems with releasing my stress in a healthy manner. over the years i’ve learnt some useful tips to help me with stress
Its all about the location
changing the location your in form a stressful place to a more calmer place helps reduce stress, its similar to removing a hot coal from fire and placing it on the ground, see how quickly the coals temperature would decrease compared to if it was in the fire
changing location even if it’s for a few minutes can help. a walk to get a glass of water or even a walk to the toilet is enough to reduce stress.
A word after word is relief
writing in times of stress can help clear a cluttered mind and help you to focus. this enables you to reduce your stress levels .
“I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn.” -Anne Frank
another reason writing helps reduce stress is because it organises you. making your day to day life less chaotic
exhales that stress out of your body
when your stressed out, your heart rate increase, breathing becomes shorter and quicker, a method to calm you down quicker is to take long deep breaths
by controlling your breathing, taking slow deep breaths inhaling and exhaling. between every inhale and exhale hold for 3 seconds. i was highly skeptical of breathing exercises as a form of stress realise until i started practising them. this not only helps me to reduce stress but also helps me to fall asleep within five minutes
shake it off
when you manage a stressful situation the last thing which come to mind is exercise. when trying to relax exercise may seem counterproductive. Surprising ‘exercise reduces levels of the body’s stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. It also stimulates the production of endorphins, chemicals in the brain that are the body’s natural painkillers and mood elevators.’1 any type of exercise for a small stroll to a heavy workout is enough to reduce those stress levels
the journey starts from within
everyone different. things on this list may work for me but not for others and vice versa. you need to see what techniques you have used when you are stressed out, maybe it’s walking your dog, talking to a close friend and family or even cooking, do whatever works for you.
